Addons
Addons are optional capabilities you turn on for your whole organization. Sonat's core covers documents, topics, publishing, and search. Everything beyond that core is an addon your team installs when it needs it. If an addon isn't installed, its menus, tabs, and buttons don't appear in the editor, so the editor only shows the features your team uses.
For example, a team that prints its manuals can install PDF Export and Physical Tabs. A team that only publishes online never sees those options.
Where to find addons
Open the left sidebar and select Addons in the organization section. When you are inside a document, it is under the Organization submenu. The page header shows how many addons your organization has installed.
Addons are grouped into four categories, which you can pick from the sidebar on the left of the page:
- Authoring: how you write and review content, for example Markdown, Topic Templates, and the AI addons
- Organization: how you structure, protect, and find content, for example Tags, Private Access, and Vector Search
- Design: how topics look, for example Design Canvas, Whiteboard, and Title Background Color
- Export: what you produce from your documents, for example PDF Export and Physical Tabs
Use the search box to find an addon by name or description, and the All, Installed, and Not Installed filter to narrow the list. Each addon has a Documentation link that opens its page in this guide.
Who can install addons
Every member of your organization can browse the Addons page. Only an Owner or an Admin can install or uninstall an addon. Other members see the message "Only an owner or an admin can install addons for this organization," and the buttons are disabled.
An addon applies to everyone in your organization. You can't install it for only some members or some documents. Some addons have their own settings that let you choose where they apply, such as which documents show reader feedback.
Install an addon
- On the Addons page, find the addon and select Install.
- Read the confirmation dialog. If the addon needs other addons, they are listed under This will also install.
- Select Install.
The addon is available right away. Other members who already have the editor open might need to reload the page to see it.
Uninstall an addon
- On the Addons page, find the installed addon and select Uninstall.
- Read the confirmation dialog. If other installed addons depend on this one, they are listed under This will also disable, and they are uninstalled too.
- Select Uninstall.
Uninstalling deletes nothing you have created. Existing content keeps showing for readers and in PDF exports. You can't edit content that needs the addon until you install it again, and its settings are kept for when you do. The one exception is Vector Search: uninstalling it removes your organization's search index, and reinstalling it builds a new one.
Two addons can't be uninstalled while they are still in use, because uninstalling would hide the only settings that can turn them off:
- Private Access: first make your organization and every document public.
- PDF Export: first turn off PDF export for your organization and for every document and topic.
Dependencies
Some addons build on others. For example, Tag Categories needs Tags, and Proofread needs AI Editor, which needs AI Assistant. The row shows a "Requires …" tag for each dependency. When you install an addon, Sonat installs its dependencies with it and lists them in the confirmation dialog first. An addon that was installed this way shows the tag Installed as a dependency.
A few export addons also need an organization setting: Custom PDF Cover Page and Physical Tabs need document export turned on in Organization Settings > Advanced. Until it is on, the Install button is disabled with the message "Turn on the required organization setting first."
Plans
Most addons are available on every plan, including Free. A few require a higher plan:
| Addon | Required plan |
|---|---|
| Private Access | Business or higher |
| Vector Search | Business or higher |
| SaaS Assistant Widget | Enterprise |
| Translation Glossary | Enterprise |
| Proofread | Enterprise |
If your plan doesn't include an addon, its Install button is disabled with the message "Not included in your current plan." To get it, upgrade from Billing or contact Sonat.
If your organization moves to a plan that no longer includes an installed addon, the addon is Suspended. It stops working, but it stays on your account with its settings. After you move back to a plan that includes it, select Reactivate.
Badges
- Beta: ready to use, still being improved based on feedback.
- Experimental: an early version that might change significantly. Try it on content you can recreate.
- Granted by Sonat: Sonat enabled this addon for your organization, for example as part of an agreement.
Some addons are available on request only. To ask for one, contact Sonat support.
