Custom HTML
Custom HTML adds a topic type that holds a complete, self-contained web page with its own HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Use it for content a normal topic can't express, such as an interactive demo, a calculator, or a styled landing page. You build and change these pages mainly with the AI Editor: describe the page you want and review the result. You don't need to write code.
Category: Authoring · Status: Experimental · Plan: all plans · Requires: AI Editor and AI Assistant, which are installed with it
Create a Custom HTML topic
- From Home: select Create, then Custom HTML under Topics. Enter a title and select Create page.
- Inside a document: select New, then Custom HTML.
The new topic starts as an empty page. Its title is set in the topic's title field, separately from the page content.
Build and edit the page
- Select the sparkle icon (AI Editor) and describe the page or the change you want, for example "a pricing table with three plans and a monthly or yearly switch".
- Review the proposal and select Apply to topic.
- Use the Edit and Preview toggle to switch between editing and seeing the page as readers will.
For small changes, select a block of text in Edit mode and type to change it in place, or select an image to replace it with a file from your computer. Use the AI Editor for anything larger, such as layout, styling, or behavior. The editor doesn't have a code view.
How readers see it
On Sonat's shared viewer, the page is shown in an isolated frame. Its scripts run, but they can't access the rest of the Sonat site or your readers' sessions. On a custom domain, a public Custom HTML topic opens as a standalone web page in place of the normal topic page.
Limits
- This addon is experimental and might change significantly.
- Custom HTML pages aren't designed for PDF export. Check how a page looks before you include it in a PDF.
If you uninstall it
The Custom HTML option disappears from the create menus. Existing Custom HTML topics keep showing for readers, but you can't edit them until you install the addon again. Custom HTML is also uninstalled when you uninstall the AI Editor or the AI Assistant.
