Tag Categories
Tag Categories lets you group your tags under heading tags, and adds an automatic table of contents to a document's PDF, organized by those categories. For example, a "Procedures" category can hold the tags "Start-up", "Shutdown", and "Emergency". The PDF then lists each tag under its category, with the page numbers of every topic that has it.
Category: Organization · Plan: all plans · Requires: Tags, which is installed with it. The table of contents is set up in the PDF Export settings, so you also need PDF Export.
Group tags into categories
A category is itself a tag. You make one tag the parent of others.
- Open Organization Settings > Tags.
- Create the tag you want to use as the category, for example "Procedures".
- Edit each tag that belongs in it, and choose the category under Parent tag.
Each tag card shows its parent, or No parent.
Add the category table of contents to a PDF
- Open the document's Document Settings > PDF Export tab.
- Under Custom Table of Contents, turn on Generate custom table of contents.
- Save, then publish the document to regenerate its PDF.
In the PDF, each category is a heading in its color. Under it, its tags are listed alphabetically in their own colors, each followed by the page numbers of the topics that carry it. The custom table of contents comes after the regular table of contents and before any tag indexes. Tags without a category, and categories with no tagged topics in the PDF, are left out.
If you uninstall it
The Parent tag field and the custom table of contents switch are hidden. Parent assignments and the switch setting are kept. Documents that already use the custom table of contents keep printing it, but you can't change it until you install Tag Categories again. Uninstalling Tags also uninstalls Tag Categories.
