Design Canvas
Design Canvas adds a topic type that you lay out visually on a fixed-size page, placing text, shapes, lines, icons, and images exactly where you want them. Use it for content where layout matters more than flowing text, such as a one-page quick reference card, a poster, or a labeled diagram.

Create a canvas topic
- Inside a document: select New, then Design Canvas.
- From Home: select Create, then Design Canvas. This creates a standalone topic that isn't part of any document.
Design the page
The canvas toolbar gives you:
- Text, with ready-made text styles
- Shapes, Add line, and Icon, with a searchable icon library
- Image, to upload a picture
- Background, to choose a built-in background or upload your own
- Insert variable, to place an organization variable whose value updates everywhere when it changes
- Layer controls: Bring to front, Bring forward, Send backward, and Send to back
- Page size: A3, A4, A5, Letter, Legal, Tabloid, or a custom size, in portrait or landscape
- Zoom controls, including Fit to window
Select an element to change its properties in the side panel, including Align on canvas to line it up with the page edges or center.
How readers see it
In the viewer, readers see the canvas as a read-only image, with variables filled in. In PDF exports, the canvas appears as a full-width image under the topic title.
If you uninstall it
You can no longer create new canvas topics. Existing canvas topics keep showing for readers and in PDFs, and you can still open and edit them.
